Forget carefully arranged displays and matching tableware sets. In Shanghai, two warehouses offer shopping experiences for ceramics enthusiasts. Shoppers can browse baskets filled with ceramic bowls, plates, mugs, and vases, pick out their favorites, and pay just 5 yuan (about 74 cents) per 500 grams.

The trend, known in Chinese as "jianci" (picking ceramics), offers a different way to shop for home goods. Similar warehouses embracing this trend can be found in Baoshan district and Chuansha in Pudong New Area.

2. For items intended to hold food, prioritize products with clear information on materials, intended use, and food-contact safety.

3. The warehouses can be dusty, so bringing a face mask is recommended.
