As the 2025 Shanghai Shopping Festival kicks off — running from May 1 to late June — a global shopping event has opened at Greenland Being Fun, a shopping mall and commercial complex in Shanghai's Xuhui district.

The event has quickly become a popular destination, drawing large crowds eager to experience the joys of exploring international goods all in one place.

The event features two themed markets — the East Market and the West Market — which showcase a blend of traditional Chinese culture and international flair.

In the East Market, visitors can explore items such as incense and lacquer fans, highlighting Chinese heritage and craftsmanship. Meanwhile, the West Market brings together over 100 products from 15 countries and regions, thanks to a partnership with the giant China International Import Expo, or CIIE, which is held each year in Shanghai.

Eye-catching deals abound: Some fine Australian wine is available at a 45 percent discount; Belgian chocolates come with a "buy three, get one free" offer and Mongolian scarves and hats are being offered at 20 percent off.

Shoppers are being especially drawn to Uzbek cashmere scarves, marked down to just 30 percent of their original price.

Adding to all the excitement, eight premium imported products — including Argentine extra virgin olive oil and Australian canola oil — are being introduced to the public for the first time.

Once seen only at CIIE, these goods are now readily available — reflecting Shanghai's growing role as a launchpad for global product debuts and the strong confidence international brands have in China’s consumer market.

According to Li Yunfei, project manager at the Greenland Global Community Trading Hub — a permanent platform supporting the CIIE — the company has taken part in the shopping festival for six consecutive years.

"We leverage our global resources and cooperate with consulates in Shanghai to introduce new overseas products and CIIE items," Li said.

"By creating new retail experiences in districts like Xuhui, Huangpu, Hongkou and the Pudong New Area, we're enriching shopping choices for local consumers," the manager added.
