Syngenta breaks ground on crop protection innovation center in Shanghai
Swiss agricultural giant Syngenta Group broke ground on its China crop protection innovation center in Shanghai's Jinshan district on Jan 25.
The new center will focus on developing innovative chemical and biological crop protection solutions, improving soil health, and advancing sustainable farming technologies tailored to China's diverse agricultural conditions.
It is expected to begin operations in 2028, joining Syngenta's global innovation network, which already includes research centers in Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Jeff Rowe, CEO of Syngenta Group, emphasized that the center will leverage China's strong talent pool and supply chains to create solutions that benefit both local and global farmers.
The project has received strong support from the Shanghai municipal government and Jinshan district government, including approvals, policy incentives, and talent recruitment assistance.
The center will also employ energy-efficient systems and renewable energy to minimize its environmental footprint.
