Putuo to welcome new innovation center for advanced glass materials
The National Innovation Center for Advanced Glass Materials will establish its Shanghai center in Putuo district, supporting the construction of the Shanghai (Yangtze River Delta) International Science and Technology Innovation Center.
The announcement was made on Dec 23 during the Engineering Science and Technology Forum of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the 2025 Conference on Optoelectronic Materials of China.
In recent years, Putuo has focused on optimizing its science and technology innovation ecosystem by linking universities, research institutions, and tech firms.
Peng Shou, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the National Innovation Center for Advanced Glass Materials, emphasized that the decision to establish the Shanghai center in Putuo has strategic meaning.
"Putuo district is an active participant in the Yangtze River Delta industrial collaboration and the Shanghai-Nanjing Industrial Innovation Belt. The district hosts numerous optoelectronic and semiconductor materials companies. Establishing a national-level platform here can effectively attract talent," Peng said.
The Shanghai center will focus on next-generation key advanced glass materials, aligning its research with national needs and industry frontiers. It plans to concentrate on optoelectronic materials and leverage artificial intelligence to enhance materials research.
This initiative complements Putuo's existing industrial foundation and research resources, aiming to translate research achievements into practical applications.
For Putuo, the establishment of national-level innovation platforms and top-tier think tanks will inject development momentum into its advanced materials industry.
