City upgrades transport services for smoother CIIE experience
Ahead of the 8th China International Import Expo, Shanghai has introduced a series of transport improvements, from new taxis and metro extensions to strengthened contingency measures, all aimed at providing a smarter, more efficient travel experience for exhibitors and visitors alike.
🚕 New taxis hit the road with smarter features
New models debut at CIIE
The first batch of 130 new taxis will operate during the expo, offering greater cabin space and luggage capacity. One model accommodates two 28-inch and two 20-inch suitcases, while another can hold up to six 28-inch suitcases, meeting the needs of business travelers with heavy luggage.
QR code for transparent trips
A newly introduced service QR code sticker inside taxis allows passengers to check fare estimates and optimal routes before their journey begins, a convenient feature especially for international visitors who may not use local ride-hailing apps.
Star-rated drivers now recognized
A star-based driver rating system is being introduced, with 280 top-rated four- and five-star drivers now identifiable by red roof lights. Passengers will soon be able to view driver ratings through online platforms and e-service cards.
Secure meters with encryption tech
More than 2,000 new-energy taxis have been equipped with upgraded digital sensors. The new meters use dynamic encryption, similar to credit card systems, to prevent tampering and ensure accurate, reliable fares.
🚇 Metro Line 2 extended with new station
The Panxiang Road Shanghai National Accounting Institute Station, part of the western extension project of Metro Line 2, is scheduled to open on Nov 1. The new stop will serve as an additional transport hub for CIIE, helping ease passenger flow around the National Exhibition and Convention Center.
Operating hours
- To Shanghai Pudong International Airport: First 5:25 am/Last 9:57 pm
- To Guanglan Road: Last 10:40 pm
- First train from Longyang Road arrives: 6:12 am
- Last train from Pudong airport arrives: 12:05 am
Four exits & barrier-free access
The station opens with four exits and three elevators, ensuring accessible transit for all.
Always-open gate mode
The new station uses "always-open" fare gates. After tapping in or scanning, passengers can walk straight through once the screen displays a green "Go" indicator, accelerating entry and exit.
🚦 Enhanced contingency measures for traffic management
Flexible metro control for crowd diversion
In the event of heavy passenger flow at the NECC or its metro station, Line 2 trains may skip the station in the down direction. Passengers will be guided to alight at Panxiang Road Station and continue to the venue on foot or by shuttle bus.
Multi-layered coordination for orderly flow
- Hongqiao Railway Station may clear trains as a backup measure.
- Exit 4 of the NECC Station may temporarily close, with passengers redirected to Exits 6 and 9.
- Panxiang Road Station will activate a multi-station coordination mechanism, with announcements and staff members guiding passengers to walk, take shuttles, or transfer to trains in the opposite direction.
