Do extra public holidays affect salary calculation?
english.shanghai.gov.cn
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security recently issued an announcement clarifying the impact of two newly added public holidays — Chinese New Year's Eve and May 2 — on salary calculations.
According to the announcement, statutory holidays are considered paid days off under Article 51 of the Labor Law of the People’s Republic of China.
As such, they are not deducted when calculating the number of monthly working days. Therefore, the inclusion of these two additional holiday days does not affect salary calculations.
Daily and hourly wages calculation:
-
- Daily wage: Monthly salary ÷ Monthly workdays
- Hourly wage: Monthly salary ÷ (Monthly workdays × 8 hours)
The standard number of monthly workdays is calculated as:
-
- (365 days - 104 weekend days) ÷ 12 months = 21.75 days
