Manga magic lands in shanghai with world's 1st Shonen Jump complex
A new hotspot for manga fans has been unveiled in Shanghai with the opening of a three-in-one Shonen Jump complex in the city's Xuhui district on July 12.
This innovative venue, located at the Metro City shopping mall, combines retail, dining, and takeaway beverages, all themed around some of Japan's most beloved manga series.
On the first floor, the Shonen Jump Shop offers an extensive collection of merchandise from One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Naruto, all classics from the legendary Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.
Fans can browse a wide range of items, including keychains, figures, and custom-made stickers. Popular among visitors are interactive machines that allow the creation of personalized souvenirs on the spot, drawing lines of eager customers.
Upstairs, visitors can enter the Shonen Jump Cafe for a fully immersive manga experience. Walls lined with original Japanese manga volumes set the scene, while the menu features dishes inspired by specific series.
Highlights include a One Piece meal served on a straw hat-themed placemat and a Dragon Ball-inspired set of seven fried rice balls, reflecting the iconic seven Dragon Balls.
The cafe operates on a reservation-only basis, with all slots for the opening week quickly snapped up.
For those who are unable to secure a table, the Shonen Jump Cafe Station on the outdoor plaza offers manga-themed takeaway drinks. Each sleeve features special designs, turning ordinary coffee into a collectible item for fans.
This launch is said to continue Metro City's tradition of attracting top-tier ACGN (animation, comics, games, and novels) IPs, following its debut of the first official Studio Ghibli shop, Donguri Republic, in the Chinese mainland in 2016.
