Top Banana Market opens at Jing'an Joy City
A new food destination has opened in Shanghai. On Feb 8, Top Banana Market launched at Jing'an Joy City, introducing a market-style dining space inspired by bananas. Combining an open, casual setting with a tropical Asian aesthetic, the venue offers another option for diners seeking variety and convenience in the city center.
The space is defined by a warm yellow color palette and clean, contemporary visuals. Its open layout moves away from the traditional enclosed storefront model, allowing customers to circulate easily among food counters and shared seating areas.
Top Banana Market combines a range of Asian cuisines and modern food concepts, spanning street-style specialties, light meals, freshly made beverages, and desserts. Several brands are making their Shanghai debut at the market.
Opalm Asia, making its Shanghai debut, focuses on Southeast Asian flavors and presents dishes that combine regional ingredients with contemporary techniques. Nuu Nuu Tempura, also fresh to the city, prepares tempura to order, featuring seafood and seasonal vegetables coated in a light, crisp batter. Karasuma Solitary Sukiyaki introduces a counter-style dining concept designed for solo diners, serving wagyu-based dishes including multi-style wagyu rice bowls, fried rice, and freshly prepared sukiyaki.
Wen Made is also opening its first Shanghai location. Drawing on elements of traditional Chinese architecture, the restaurant centers on stir-fried rice noodles with fresh beef. Its menu incorporates regional ingredients such as cured tofu and wild herbs from Poyang Lake in Hukou county, Jiangxi province, alongside spicy duck-based side dishes.
According to the operator, the name Top Banana signals both a top choice and an open approach to food. The market aims to combine familiar flavors with new interpretations, offering a casual and accessible dining experience for a broad range of consumers.
