School enrollment eligibility for children of foreign nationals

Who can apply

Applicants who meet the following criteria may apply directly to the school they wish to attend:

Children of foreign nationals who hold a foreign passport, whose parents possess a valid Foreigner's Work Permit and Foreigner's Residence Permit through legal employment in Shanghai.
Foreign-born children of Chinese citizens with a Chinese passport, and whose parents currently live and work in Shanghai.

Applicants who meet the following criteria must first obtain a certificate issued by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission before applying to their chosen school:

Children of Chinese citizens returning to live and work in Shanghai who hold a Chinese passport and whose entire family has obtained foreign permanent residency. The child must have attended school in the country or region where the family holds permanent residency for at least the past two consecutive years.

Documents to prepare

- Application Form for Admission to a School for Children of Foreign Nationals

- Certificate of current employment and the employer's business license

- Individual income tax certificate from the employer in Shanghai

- Passports and permanent residence permit documents of the entire family

- Entry/exit records for the entire family

- Proof of residence in Shanghai

- Proof of parents-children relationship

- Proof of school attendance in the country of permanent residence

All documents must be provided in both original and photocopy.
