Shanghai's digital bus pass can now be used in neighboring Jiaxing
Starting this year, Shanghai residents can use their digital bus passes in neighboring Jiaxing and vice versa as the local governments have launched a public transportation integration scheme that will be expanded to nearly a dozen cities in the Yangtze River Delta region.
Transportation and big data management departments from the Yangtze River Delta region, which includes Anhui, Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces and Shanghai municipality, will jointly promote "One-Code Pass" as part of efforts to further promote mutual connectivity and enhance the integration of transportation development in the region.
Starting from Jan 1, Shanghai and Jiaxing will become the first to achieve interconnectivity of QR codes issued in accordance with the criteria of the Ministry of Transportation. The implementation of this program means that residents of both Shanghai and Jiaxing can enjoy convenient public transportation without the need to download apps or apply for codes from another city.
The departments will also launch a pilot program for interconnectivity between Shanghai and Suzhou city in East China's Jiangsu province as well as Jiaxing city in East China's Zhejiang province.
On Nov 1, 2023, the transportation and big data management departments of the three provinces and one municipality in the Yangtze River Delta jointly issued the "One-Code Pass" working plan for transportation in the region (2023-25). This plan aims to promote the interconnectivity of QR codes based on national standards and pilot applications of provincial-level government codes in an orderly manner.
According to the working plan, the interconnectivity pilot program will be launched in Shanghai and 11 other cities in the Yangtze River Delta in 2024. This will be gradually expanded to cover more cities and public transportation scenarios.
