Shanghai plans further support for foreign-funded R&D centers
Shanghai is actively encouraging the continued advancement of foreign-funded research and development centers within the city, aiming to effectively harness global reservoirs of high-quality innovation.
During a municipal executive meeting presided over by Mayor Gong Zheng on Jan 8, the city in principle endorsed a plan to invigorate the growth of foreign-funded R&D centers.
Participants at the meeting underscored the importance of fostering international scientific and technological cooperation while nurturing an open innovation ecosystem.
They also called for enhanced policy coordination to bolster the confidence of foreign enterprises operating in Shanghai. They hope to consistently attract a growing number of multinational companies to establish their R&D centers in the city.
To complement this initiative, the city plans to provide improved services, including government-enterprise communication roundtable meetings and tailored service packages for key enterprises. These efforts are designed to effectively support the attraction and retention of talents for foreign-funded R&D centers.
The city also envisions promoting collaborative innovation by fostering cooperation between foreign-funded R&D centers and local innovation entities. This aims to synergize innovation across foreign capital, State-owned enterprises and private capital.
As part of its global outlook, the city is committed to supporting foreign-funded R&D centers in establishing a global innovation network.
