As the Spring Festival holiday approaches, Shanghai is implementing measures to ensure ample housekeeping services during this period.
Despite nearly 8 million people predicted to depart Shanghai during the traditional holiday for family reunions or tourism - spanning from Feb 10 to 17 - certain housekeeping services such as deep cleaning are expected to experience a significant surge in demand before the festival. Services including elderly care and maternal and child care will remain crucial throughout the holiday, said the city's commerce commission.
The city's domestic services association has meticulously chosen 131 enterprises to guarantee the provision of services during the holiday period.
Approximately 70 percent of housekeeping staff will remain on duty throughout the holiday. To retain these employees, some enterprises have incentivized workers to return home during off-peak travel seasons or to spend the festival in Shanghai by offering additional bonuses and other benefits.
Certain companies are ensuring adequate staffing by mobilizing workers from neighboring regions in the Yangtze River Delta to work in Shanghai during the holiday.
