To enhance the experience of international travelers, the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection has released its forecast for peak Customs clearance hours at entry and exit ports in Shanghai throughout the eight-day Spring Festival holiday from Feb 10 to 17, along with corresponding measures.

1.Anticipated entry-exit trends

With the upcoming Spring Festival holiday from Feb 10 to 17, Shanghai foresees a notable increase in inbound and outbound trips.

During the eight-day holiday, border inspection agencies across Shanghai are expected to see 740,000 entry and exit trips, with an estimated 662,000 at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (averaging 83,000 per day) and 70,000 at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (averaging 9,000 per day).

Altogether, the total number of entry-exit trips at the two airports is expected to be about six times that of last year’s Spring Festival holiday, representing an increase of about 35 percent compared to the same period last month.

The peak for outbound travel is forecast for Feb 8, the day before the Chinese New Year’s Eve; Feb 11, the second day of the Chinese New Year; and February 15, the sixth day of the Chinese New Year. 

Peak inbound passenger flow is expected on Feb 8, Feb 16, and Feb 18.

On Feb 14, Adora Magic City, theChina’s first domestically produced large cruise ship, will undergo border inspections at the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal, involving an expected total of 8,000 entry-exit passenger trips.

2.Airport peak hours forecast 

Pudong airport

At the Shanghai Airport Station of Immigration Inspection, a pilot program is currently underway to allow 10 airlines to use electronic boarding passes for outbound border inspections. 

Foreign travelers are provided advancedquick guidance on filling out and submitting personal information.

The Hongqiao Station of Immigration Inspection has optimized the waiting area for inspecting inbound travelers and piloted the use of electronic declaration devices for inbound foreign travelers, effectively reducing the time for clearance. 

Reminder: To enhance your travel experience, kindly be aware of peak times for both inbound and outbound trips. Ensure you have your valid entry and exit documents readily available. We recommend arriving at the airport well in advance to allow ample time for flight check-in and Customs clearance.

3.International cruise schedule forecast

The Pujiang Station of Immigration Inspection adopts a flexible border inspection mode to ensure safe and smooth Customs clearance on the Adora Magic City.

Due to the limited docking time, the processing time for passengers' entry and exit procedures is relatively concentrated. Travelers are advised to ensure they have valid entry and exit documents and, according to the predicted cruise schedule, allocate sufficient time for clearance.
