Shanghai has announced plans to open the city's Twin Hills scenic landmark for public use in the second half of the year.

Standing 48 meters and 37 meters high respectively, the two man-made hills are located in the southern part of the Shanghai Expo Culture Park in Pudong New Area.

Inspired by a 2017 public ideas submission, the artificial landscape is designed to meet the needs of locals for a more convenient hiking experience in the downtown area.

Also, as part of the Shanghai Expo Culture Park, a greenhouse garden near the Twin Hills will open to the public in a few months. The greenhouse garden, transformed from a three-floor steel factory, presents a wide range of plants in a setting that combines industrial history with innovative design and art installations.

Currently, Shanghai maintains over 477 city parks across the city, 33 of them allowing pet access and 18 with designated spaces for kite flying. A total of 72 parks, including Shanghai Zoo and Shanghai Botanical Garden, allow camping in the designated areas.
