Shanghai began the construction of Metro Line 19, a new subway route that traverses the city's five districts, announced the city's metro operator Shanghai Shentong Metro Group.
Stretching from Hongjian Road Station in Minhang district in the south to Baoshan Station in Baoshan district in the north, the line covers approximately 46.17 kilometers. Positioned to become another transfer hub of the Shanghai Metro, the underground line will feature 34 stations, including 18 transfer stations.
Once completed, the line will establish itself as a fast passenger transport corridor, connecting key areas along its route, including Wujing in Minhang, the south bank of Xuhui, the Lujiazui financial district, the core area of the North Bund, the Wusong Innovation City, and the Baoshan Railway Station.
Additionally, it will offer seamless transfer with Metro Line 18, currently under construction, at the pivotal South Jiangyang Road Station in the city's northern Baoshan district. Upon completion, this station will serve as a crucial metro hub in the Wusong Innovation City, an important area for the sub-center function of northern Shanghai.
The new line will also significantly expand the coverage of the city's metro system, which has long served as a vital component of Shanghai's transportation network. Presently, Shanghai's metro system comprises 20 metro lines with a combined length of 831 kilometers, providing a convenient and efficient means of navigating the metropolis.
