Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with a delegation headed by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Shanghai on April 25.

Chen noted that this year marks the 45th anniversary of China-US diplomatic relations and emphasized Shanghai's commitment to contributing to the development of bilateral relations. As Shanghai accelerates its industrial transformation, upgrades consumer markets, and intensifies efforts in technological innovation, it will bring new development opportunities and expand cooperation spaces for both domestic and foreign enterprises, including those from the United States. Chen pledged to adhere to market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized principles, continuously optimize the business environment, provide efficient and convenient services, and support various enterprises to deepen their roots in Shanghai for mutually beneficial development.

Both sides discussed economic and trade exchanges, technological innovation, and cultural exchanges. Blinken expressed his pleasure in visiting Shanghai, noting its impressive commercial and economic vitality. He affirmed that China's development is beneficial to the world, and the US welcomes China's prosperity. Maintaining dialogue and communication is crucial in avoiding misjudgments, managing differences, and promoting cooperation. He voiced support for continuous cooperation between the US and China in areas of common interest across all levels.
