Shanghai plans to host 175 major sports events in 2024

Shanghai plans to host an unprecedented 175 major sports events at or above the national level in 2024, according to Xu Bin, the director of the Shanghai Administration of Sports, on April 25.
Xu also mentioned that one of Shanghai's most important tasks this year is to integrate sports with commerce, culture, tourism, and exhibitions, which will better stimulate consumption.
The recently concluded 2024 Formula 1 Lenovo Chinese Grand Prix was one of the 175 major events. The organizers also launched the Checkered Flag Music Carnival, the Shanghai Auto Culture Festival, and other relevant events.
More major events are set to occur in 2024, including the Olympic Qualifier Series Shanghai, the Head of Shanghai River Regatta, the Shanghai Marathon, the fourth Shanghai Citizen's Games, and more.
In addition, significant progress has been made in the construction of sports infrastructure, including the completion of the Shanghai Juss International Equestrian Center, the Shanghai Chongming Cycling Center, and other venues, as well as 30 new community fitness centers and 80 new and renovated walking trails.
Xu said that the construction focuses on balancing indoor and outdoor fitness needs, covering all age groups, and promoting the digital transformation of the facilities.
