Yangtze River Delta accelerates construction on high-speed rail projects

In a bid to enhance connectivity and spur regional development, China Railway Shanghai Group has unveiled plans to expedite several high-speed rail projects in the Yangtze River Delta region throughout 2024.
Following the recent inauguration of the Chizhou-Huangshan high-speed railway on April 26, a wave of new lines is set to transform transportation dynamics in the area.

The Chizhou-Huangshan high-speed railway, spanning 125 kilometers with a design speed of 350 km/h, has emerged as a pivotal link between Chizhou and Huangshan in Anhui province. This route not only facilitates access to popular tourist destinations like Jiuhua Mountain and Huangshan Mountain, but also serves as a crucial junction connecting Jiangsu's Nanjing, Anhui's Anqing, Zhejiang's Hangzhou, and Jiangxi's Nanchang, thus bolstering regional connectivity and stimulating tourism and economic growth.

Among the forthcoming projects is the Hangzhou-Wenzhou high-speed railway, which is currently in its testing phase. This railway route will stretch 260 kilometers from Hangzhou to Wenzhou in Zhejiang province. Operating at a top speed of 350 km/h, this line will interlink key cities in Zhejiang, including Hangzhou, Jinhua, Taizhou, and Wenzhou.

The Xuancheng-Jixi high-speed railway covers 111.6 kilometers and features stations such as Xuancheng, Ningguo South, and Jixi North. This railway route is poised to bolster the rapid railway corridor connecting Jiangsu, Anhui, and Jiangxi provinces, thereby enhancing regional transport networks and catalyzing tourism and economic activities.

Another significant project in the pipeline is the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou high-speed railway, which will span 163.8 kilometers from Shanghai Hongqiao to Huzhou in Zhejiang province. With a designated speed of 350 km/h, this line will feature eight stations and alleviate transport pressure on the Shanghai-Nanjing and Shanghai-Hangzhou corridors.

Moreover, the expansion of the Zhuangqiao-Ningbo line within the Ningbo railway hub is set to increase passenger transport capacity and alleviate congestion. This project involves the addition of a third and fourth line that will have a designated for speeds of 120 km/h.

By advancing major projects such as the elevated transformation of the Jiashan section of the Shanghai-Kunming railway and the construction of the Nanjing North Comprehensive Practical Training Base, China Railway Shanghai Group aims to solidify the Yangtze River Delta region's dense high-speed rail network. This expansion is expected to foster regional development and propel the region towards a more interconnected and prosperous future.
