Shanghai's Yangpu district currently has 41 24-hour public restrooms and plans to add more in the future. This move is in response to the growing demand for such facilities as the night economy continues to thrive.
Han Yanhong, a janitorial worker at Shanghai Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC), revealed that there is a growing demand for public restrooms.
"This area is in a business circle, so there are many tourists and residents as well as delivery workers," she said. "People have dinners and hang out here even if it's 9 or 10 pm," she continued.
The Shanghai Yangpu Environment Development Co has installed portable toilets throughout KIC and nearby neighborhoods to accommodate emergencies, including large crowds.
In the future, Yangpu district will gradually increase the number of 24-hour public toilets. This is expected to support the night economy in the district.
