The first phase of construction on the container terminal at Shanghai's Luojing Port at the estuary of the Yangtze River in Baoshan district was launched on Aug 7.
The project is part of Shanghai's latest efforts to enhance the development and renovation of its ports, which also includes the comprehensive development project of the area north of Xiaoyangshan Island, where Yangshan Port is located.
The city will facilitate the digitalized, green, and high-quality development of its ports to solidify its position as an international shipping center.
During the first half of the year, Shanghai ports accomplished a container throughput of 25.51 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), a year-on-year increase of 7.5 percent.
