Shanghai will build a Buddhist museum on the north side of the Jade Buddha Temple in the city's Putuo district.
The museum is part of the temple's ongoing renovation project. Initiated in January, the project entails the construction of a 13-floor Buddhist culture research and communication center and the five-floor Buddhist museum, as well as the renovation of four historical buildings.
The museum will be mainly used for exhibitions, while the Buddhist culture research and communication center will serve as a venue for events, research work space, and library, among other functions.
The renovation project of the Jade Buddha Temple, which was founded in 1882, is expected to be completed in December 2029.
