A total of 1,982 couples registered their marriages in Shanghai on Saturday, Aug 10, marking a significant increase compared to previous years and setting a new record for Qixi Festival, also known as the Chinese Valentine's Day.

The surge in registrations coincides with the city's efforts to promote and celebrate the traditional festival through various activities and events. These initiatives aim to raise awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the cultural significance of Qixi.

One notable event was the "Our Festival" Qixi Cultural Week held in Minhang district. The week-long celebration offered a diverse array of activities for the public, including a bustling flower market, nighttime strolls in parks, and artistic performances. The event organizers said they aimed to create a vibrant atmosphere where people can experience the romance and joy associated with Qixi.

Furthermore, the city hosted special wedding registration ceremonies, including one at the China Securities Museum and another at the former site of the Union Church. These ceremonies featured a number of traditional elements, such as couples wearing traditional Hanfu attire and participating in traditional rituals.

With its rich history and vibrant cultural scene, Shanghai continues to embrace its traditions while fostering a sense of community and shared experience, especially during significant cultural events like Qixi.
