Shanghai Border Inspection sees surge in foreign travelers
The Shanghai Border Inspection authority has witnessed a significant increase in inbound and outbound foreign travelers, reporting the processing of approximately 5.1 million individuals since the beginning of 2024. This notable uptick reflects a remarkable 156 percent surge compared to the corresponding period last year.
Since July 1, at the commencement of the peak summer travel season, the city's border inspection facilities have handled around 4.75 million individuals and 30,000 vehicles for entry and exit at the stations situated in Shanghai's bustling Pudong and Hongqiao international airports.
In a bid to streamline and enhance the customs clearance process for foreign travelers, the border inspection at the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport has introduced a self-service border entry card printing terminal. This innovative solution allows foreign nationals, including transit passengers eligible for 24-hour or 144-hour visa-free visits, to conveniently input essential entry information online by scanning a QR code prior to boarding their flights.
Upon arrival at the airport, travelers can effortlessly print their registration cards or temporary entry permits at the self-service terminal, marking a significant improvement in both efficiency and convenience during the customs clearance procedure.
Presently, a total of 13 such terminals have been installed at the border inspection stations located within the Pudong and Hongqiao international airports.
