Hudong-Zhonghua secures contract for five LNG dual-fuel container ships

Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, has recently inked a shipbuilding deal for the construction of five 13,000-TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) LNG dual-fuel large container ships.
This development was confirmed by the information office of the Shanghai Pudong New Area Government.
Teaming up with the China Shipbuilding Trading company, Hudong-Zhonghua sealed the contract with PacificN International Lines (Private) Ltd. This latest agreement marks another achievement for the shipbuilding giant, coming on the heels of a previous deal for four 14,000 TEU methanol-fuel ready large container ships signed back in June.
The container ship, a bespoke creation by Hudong-Zhonghua, boasts impressive environmental credentials. With dimensions measuring 335 meters in length, 51 meters in width, and 27.2 meters in depth, the vessel has a maximum container capacity of 13,000 TEU and can accommodate 2,200 refrigerated containers.
Further setting it apart is its LNG dual-fuel propulsion system, featuring a 12,000 cubic meter B-type LNG fuel tank developed in-house by the company. This design ensures an extensive range of 22,000 nautical miles in gas mode. Moreover, the ship incorporates an intelligent waste gas recycling and reuse system to enhance combustion efficiency and minimize emissions. Additionally, a patented wind shield has been integrated to reduce friction during voyages.
These advanced features translate into a vessel that offers enhanced energy efficiency, high speed, and eco-friendly operations, providing a more sustainable and cost-effective option for marine transportation.
Currently, Hudong-Zhonghua has a robust pipeline of container ship projects scheduled for delivery through 2028. This includes the construction of the world's largest 24,000 TEU ultra-large dual-fueled and regular fueled container ships, as well as 15,000 TEU and 13,000 TEU dual-fuel large container ships, among others.
