Shanghai braces for high Mid-Autumn Festival passenger influx
Anticipating a surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival holiday on Sept 15-17, the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection projected the combined influx for the city.
Of this, Shanghai Pudong International Airport was expected to handle the majority of passenger traffic, with an estimated 285,000 inbound and outbound passengers, translating to an average of 95,000 passengers per day.
Meanwhile, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport was projected to see 30,000 inbound and outbound passengers, averaging around 10,000 passengers daily.
In addition to air travel, Wusongkou International Cruise Port geared up to host six inbound and outbound cruise ships during the holiday period, welcoming a total of 20,000 passengers.
The influx of passengers during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday builds upon a year of robust travel activity – with Shanghai's border inspection station having already processed over 320 inbound and outbound cruise ships since the start of 2024, accommodating over 1 million passengers in total.
To manage the anticipated high volume of holiday travel, authorities at Shanghai's border inspection station are implementing strategic measures to optimize the deployment of police personnel and streamline the entry and exit inspection processes for both domestic and international travelers.
This includes the facilitation of policies such as the 144-hour visa-free transit policy – aimed at ensuring efficient and secure customs clearance procedures at the airports.
