Shanghai to build new water sports center in Lin-gang Special Area
Shanghai has approved a plan to build a new water sports center in the Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, taking a major step toward its vision of becoming a world-class city of sports.
The state-of-the-art facility looks to play a key role in the city's overall sports culture, integrating training, competitions, and recreational activities.
Aligned with the national strategy to combine athletic competitions with everyday fitness, the water sports center will focus on promoting sailing and windsurfing, both as professional sports and public recreational activities. The facility will serve as a world-class venue for sailing and windsurfing events with an added emphasis on community participation.
The center, located by Dishui Lake, consists of two key structures — a comprehensive building and a boat storage facility. Its design draws inspiration from the fluidity of sailboats, with clean, elegant lines, symbolizing the connection between water, sky, and the city's future growth.
The boat storage area, designed in the shape of a sail, will serve both as a functional space for competitions and a public attraction, offering visitors the opportunity to appreciate the charm of water sports.
