Shanghai is making strides in supporting maternal and infant care by enhancing the availability and quality of nursing rooms across the city, with 146 of them recognized as star-rated facilities.

As part of its broader support policy for 2024, the city has prioritized the construction and management of public nursing rooms, aiming to create safer, more private, and more comfortable spaces for mothers to breastfeed and care for their infants.

By the end of 2024, Shanghai had built 146 star-rated nursing rooms in key public spaces, including shopping malls, airports, medical centers, and parks. These rooms are designed to meet the needs of mothers by offering amenities like diaper changing tables, baby beds, breastfeeding chairs, air purifiers, and emergency baby care supplies.

Of the 146 facilities, 18 have earned five-star ratings, with others receiving four and three stars based on factors like cleanliness, comfort, and accessibility.

A standout example is the Jinqiao Community Health Service Center in Pudong New Area, which was awarded a five-star rating. Located near pediatric services, this facility offers comprehensive services for mothers and is equipped with modern, family-friendly features.

The Shanghai Municipal Health Commission is also ensuring that information about these facilities is accessible to the public through the "Suishenban" mini-program. The city will continue to monitor and evaluate the management and maintenance of these rooms, ensuring they remain in suitable condition for use by the community.

Facilities that are found to be closed, being used for other purposes, or otherwise not in compliance with declared conditions will be urged to rectify. If these facilities still do not meet requirements after being re-inspected, their star ratings will be downgraded or revoked.
