Temporary street vending to be allowed during major festivals

Shanghai is set to allow temporary street vending during major festivals, Zhang Hao, an official from the Shanghai Landscaping and City Appearance Administrative Bureau, revealed on April 2.
The bureau is working with other departments to finalize a plan aimed at optimizing street vendor management, according to Zhang.
The plan will allow for the establishment of additional vendor locations in areas with limited commercial services or strong public demand.
Popular nightlife districts, waterfront nightlife zones, cultural hubs, commercial districts, scenic spots, plazas, and other suitable locations may also expand or optimize street vending areas.
Temporary street vending will be permitted during major festivals, including First in Shanghai events, the Shanghai Shopping Festival, the Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season, the CIIE Shopping Carnival, the New Year Shopping Carnival, and the Shanghai Nightlife Festival.
The new policy also promotes a more refined approach to street vending.
It encourages the development of cultural and tourism-themed markets in designated areas, such as waterfronts along the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek, as well as around museums, art galleries, cultural centers, and public libraries.
