2025 Shanghai Intl Flower Show gets bigger, greener, and more enjoyable
The Shanghai International Flower Show, which ran from April 18 to May 11, welcomed a total of 9.8 million visitors across its two main venues and five sub-venues.
In its 19th edition, this city-wide flower exhibition set new records, boasting its largest-ever exhibition area at 390 hectares and an impressive mix of flower exhibitions, culture, tourism, business, and sports.
This year's innovative exhibition model garnered immense popularity, with over eight million views and nearly 100,000 posts on topics related to the exhibition on Xiaohongshu, or RedNote, marking a fourfold increase compared to the same period last year.
Since 2018, the exhibition has been expanded from traditional parks to the city's popular commercial areas, such as Xintiandi, Xujiahui, and the New Bund, or Qiantan area, engaging with diverse brands and participating in various artistic exchanges.
During this year's exhibition, commercial foot traffic and revenue in the New Bund of Pudong New Area, one of the sub-venues, surged by 114.59 percent and 21.44 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year, according to data from the district's ecological environment department.
While boosting consumption, the exhibition has also played an essential role in facilitating research and development of self-developed floral varieties. Since 2020, the exhibition has showcased over 3,000 new and superior plant species, with locally developed varieties surging from less than 5 percent in 2017 to 22 percent in 2025.
Furthermore, in a bid to uphold a "low-carbon exhibition", this year's flower show showcased a greater variety of indigenous plants known for their extended endurance, disease resistance, and resilience.
