Pudong airport to introduce sleep pods for overnight travelers
If you're tired of sleeping on airport benches, there's good news at Pudong airport which is adding sleep pods for overnight and transit passengers.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport is set to upgrade its services by adding sleep pods and shower facilities in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
Installation work is expected to be completed by the second quarter.
Key features
1. Sleep pods
Locations: Near Gate 24 (T1 International Departures) and Gate 67 (T2 International Departures)
Availability: Each area will have 10-20 pods
Price: 65 yuan (about $9) per hour or 333 yuan per night
2. Free shower
Locations:
- T1: International transfer and arrival areas
- T2: International to domestic transfer and international arrival corridors
Availability: 11 shower rooms in total
Facilities: Free hair dryers and other amenities

Dining: 127 stores open from 10 pm to early morning, covering all terminal areas
24/7 stores: 13 convenience stores open all day
Supplies: 28 shops offering essentials such as diapers, hygiene products and masks
Vending machines: 56 self-service machines throughout the terminals
Internet access
- Free airport-wide Wi-Fi
- Passport photo-based internet login for foreign travelers without SIM cards

Hongqiao International Airport
While Hongqiao airport closes its terminals during non-operating hours, it offers seven free overnight rest areas for early travelers. Facilities include seating, hot water, restrooms, internet and 24-hour dining at T2 arrivals.
