Shanghai entry-exit authority issues Dragon Boat Festival travel advisory

As Dragon Boat Festival approaches, Shanghai is expected to experience a sharp increase in cross-border travel. The Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection estimates that from May 31 to June 2, the city's ports will handle approximately 343,000 inbound and outbound travelers, representing a 21.6 percent increase in average daily traffic compared to the same period in 2024.

To help passengers plan their trips efficiently and pass through border checks smoothly, the following advisory has been issued.

Entry-exit reminders from the immigration administration

  • Verify travel documents: Ensure all passports, visas, and permits—yours and those of your travel companions—are valid. This includes exit-entry permits for minors and infants.
  • Understand entry requirements: Understand and comply with visa or entry policies of your destination country or region. Apply in advance for the necessary documents.
  • Stay attentive to travel alerts: Stay updated via official notices from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and National Immigration Administration.
  • Arrive early: Allow extra time to reach airports or cruise ports, especially during peak periods. Stay tuned for your flight or cruise schedule closely to avoid last-minute delays.
  • Follow border inspection procedures: Please cooperate with inspection staff and follow signage and guidance during customs and immigration clearance.
