The 2025 World Accreditation Day event and the second China Certification and Accreditation Conference convened in Shanghai's Zhangjiang Science Hall on June 5, highlighting the critical role of certification and accreditation in bolstering global trade and empowering enterprises.

Luo Wen, head of the State Administration for Market Regulation, underscored that certification and accreditation serve as essential foundations for the market economy, facilitating global trade and economic exchange.

He affirmed China's commitment to providing market opportunities through an open ecosystem, fostering mutually beneficial platforms via collaboration, and stimulating growth with innovative thinking.

Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng emphasized that certification and accreditation are globally recognized as "health check certificates" for quality management, "letters of credit" in the market economy, and "passports" for international trade.

He noted Shanghai's focus on advancing innovation in the inspection, testing, and certification sectors, aiming to build a robust system that enhances technological innovation, industrial agglomeration, and brand influence.

International Accreditation Forum Chair Emanuele Riva addressed the conference via video, noting small and medium enterprises as vital for innovation and growth. Riva believes that certification and conformity assessment enhance SMEs' credibility, assist them in capitalizing on market prospects, and facilitate their progress in innovation and sustainable development.

Several key events occurred at the conference, including the release of 2024 data on China's quality certification, inspection and testing sectors.

The event also presented standards designed to develop new quality productive forces in certification, accreditation, and inspection and testing, while also introducing supportive measures for the high-level opening-up of certification and accreditation in Shanghai's Pudong New Area.
