Earn bonus while going green: City's new carbon reward platform takes off

Shanghai has introduced a new digital platform that incentivizes residents to choose greener transportation methods.
By choosing eco-friendly travel methods such as buses or subways, users can earn "carbon points" that they can exchange for digital cash, coupons, or products from popular brands on the new platform.
The "Tanpuhui" platform went into operation on the local Suishenban app on June 25.
At present, the platform rewards four green transportation options: buses, metro, shared bikes, and electric vehicles.
Before its official launch, the platform operated in a trial phase for eight months, engaging over 130,000 individual users and nearly 300 businesses. During this period, it reduced emissions by more than 4 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.
Ms Yang, a user of the Tanpuhui platform, said, "My daily commute reduces 6.23 kilograms of CO2 emissions each month. I have earned 48.9 yuan in digital cash. It's wonderful to live green and get rewards."
In the future, the Tanpuhui platform will add more eco-friendly activities, like recycling old clothes and conserving electricity, while further enhancing user experience.
