The first 13 sleep pods have recently become operational near Gate 65 at Terminal 2 (International Departures) of Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

Available 24 hours a day, the pods are equipped with air ventilation systems and blankets. They are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each use.

Rates are 35 yuan ($4.87) for 30 minutes, 65 yuan for one hour, 95 yuan for 1.5 hours, 125 yuan for 2 hours, and 185 yuan for 3 hours. A bonus of 120 minutes is offered for every 360 minutes purchased, meaning an eight-hour stay costs 299 yuan.

Early users have praised the pods for their convenient features, including charging ports, reading lights, and tablets. To ensure proper registration, some pods remain locked and require staff assistance to access, while others are open for immediate use.

The introduction of sleep pods is part of eight new service upgrades announced by Pudong airport on June 29 to accommodate the anticipated summer travel surge.

One initiative, called "worry-free transit", includes expanded rest areas with supporting facilities, the introduction of sleep pods, and 11 shower rooms for transit passengers.

Another important service, "midnight stopover rest", provides dedicated rest zones in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to enhance passenger comfort and convenience. These areas feature sofas, recliners, charging stations, vending machines, 24-hour convenience stores, and food outlets with extended operating hours.
