Global officials explore Shanghai's urban development, technological innovation
A delegation of global ministerial officials participating in the Global Civilization Dialogue Ministerial Meeting gained first-hand insights into Shanghai's urban development, local life, and technological innovation during a visit to the Xuhui Riverside on July 9.
The tour showcased the city's commitment to a people-centered approach and its advancements in technology and cultural preservation.
The delegation's itinerary included the Xuhui Riverside Party and Community Service Center, where officials observed the center's role in fostering community spirit and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Gabriel Fischer, European affairs advisor to the chairman of Voice-Social Democracy of Slovak and representative of the Slovak National Council to the European Union, commented on the high availability of sporting amenities, which promote a healthy lifestyle, as well as the center’s ability to strengthen community bonds.
The officials also saw how public spaces could serve as multi-functional spaces, catering to diverse age groups and interests — ranging from morning exercises to evening music gatherings.
At the West Bund Museum, Shanghai's dedication to preserving its past while embracing the future was on full display.
Michal Bartek, vice-chairman of the Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic for Defense and Security, noted Shanghai's commitment to safeguarding its natural environment and cultural heritage.
Adrian Thomas, Charge d'affaires of the Embassy of Trinidad and Tobago in China, expressed admiration for the museum's ability to encapsulate Shanghai's dynamic development.
The tour culminated at the Shanghai Foundation Model Innovation Center, an AI technology experience center exhibiting over 200 cutting-edge technological products.
Damjan Jovic, state secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, was impressed by a pair of smart glasses designed to facilitate seamless communication across languages, noting the rapid growth of Serbia's information and communication industry.
Nangolo Mbumba, former President of Namibia, tried out an intelligent exercise bike, while his assistant, Ripuree Tjitendero, purchased wireless magnetic selfie displays to showcase China's technological prowess to her family.
Lekhela Thabang Polycarp, the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of the Kingdom of Lesotho, called the Shanghai tour rewarding, stressing that civilizational dialogue promotes understanding, cultural exchange, and mutual learning.
