World-class e-sports park to be built in downtown Shanghai
Shanghai’s Jing'an district is set to develop an e-sports park, building upon the district’s existing strengths in film production and other creative sectors.
The project will focus on areas along Lingshi Road and repurpose several former industrial sites—including the former Shanghai Blower Factory, Xinhua Garden and Xinye Innovation Galaxy—as core hubs for development.
By integrating local resources in film and arts, the plan envisions the creation of e-sports-themed landmarks and street installations.
Ultimately, the district aims to establish itself as both a global cinematic content creation hub and a world-class e-sports center, driving the comprehensive upgrade of its gaming, film, and creative industries.
To support this goal, the district is offering ready-to-use commercial space and financial incentives tailored to companies in gaming, media, and related supply chains.
Eligible businesses that set up operations in the area may apply for up to 10 million yuan ($1.39 million) in startup funding, 5 million yuan toward facility leasing or renovation, and performance-based rewards capped at 30 million yuan.
Investors who develop professional complexes dedicated to film or e-sports in the area may also receive a one-time subsidy up to 10 million yuan.
