Hainan Airlines expands pet travel policy
Hainan Airlines is making air travel more pet-friendly with a new policy that allows each passenger to bring two pets into the cabin.
Since July 28, passengers can travel with two small pets in the cabin, provided they meet the airline's requirements, marking a significant step forward for pet travel options in China.
To enhance comfort for animals in transit, Hainan Airlines has also increased the size limit for in-cabin pet carriers that occupy a passenger seat. The new maximum dimensions are 55×28×24 cm, up from the previous 45×28×24 cm, providing pets with more room to move, stretch, and turn around during the flight.
The airline has also expanded its in-cabin pet travel network. Changchun has been added as a new departure point, and 112 connecting flights now allow pets in the cabin, a major shift from the previous policy, which permitted pets only on direct flights.
Currently, Hainan Airlines offers in-cabin pet travel in economy class on select flights departing from 35 airports in China, including Shanghai Pudong and Hongqiao airports. The service now covers over 450 flight routes.
