Shanghai will transform into a luminous canvas this autumn as the second Shanghai International Light Festival runs from Sept 19 to Oct 18.

Organizers confirmed on Aug 15 that the Xuhui waterfront will serve as the central hub for the month-long event.

Under the theme “Light Up Shanghai”, the main venue will use light art to revitalize urban spaces, celebrating the city's dynamic culture and commercial vitality.

Satellite events will extend across all 16 districts, including Pudong New Area, Huangpu, and Jing’an.

Each district will develop unique themes reflecting local cultural, commercial, and recreational assets.

Admission to the Xuhui waterfront hub is complimentary but requires advance registration. Sub-venues will generally offer complimentary access, with specific arrangements determined locally.
