The Shanghai Maritime Court has earned praise from South Korean parties for its swift handling of a ship detention case, completing the detention of a South Korean vessel and facilitating a settlement in under 48 hours at the Waigaoqiao Terminal.

A South Korean applicant requested the vessel's detention over more than $200,000 in unpaid bills for lubricant and coating supplies provided between January 2024 and April 2025, with the ship scheduled to depart Shanghai immediately.

Leveraging an intelligent analysis system, the court quickly located the vessel and issued a detention order.

Officers served legal documents, seized the ship, and explained the proceedings in both Chinese and English.

Following a detention, a judge mediated between the parties, leading to a settlement agreement the same day and the vessel's release within 48 hours of the initial request.

The court's efficiency safeguarded the creditor's rights, prevented losses from potential delays and port fees, and demonstrated a model of rapid and effective legal service.
