Shanghai Museum will no longer require reservations for individual visitors at its People's Square location starting Sept 1.

The change brings the downtown venue in line with the museum's Pudong branch, which already allows walk-in access.

Visitors can enter through the south gate by showing valid identification during opening hours, 9 am to 5 pm, with the last entry at 4 pm. The museum is closed on Mondays, except on national holidays.

Reservations will still be required during peak periods such as national holidays, summer and winter school breaks, and for popular special exhibitions.

Crowd-control measures will be introduced if visitor numbers exceed daily or instant capacity.

The museum said it will continue monitoring attendance and adjust admission policies to balance safety, collection protection, and the visitor experience.
