Putuo's GDP up 40% since 2021
Putuo district's GDP reached 159 billion yuan ($22.3 billion) during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), up 40.8 percent from the previous five-year period, according to a press conference held by the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality on Sept 10.
As a crucial link between Shanghai and the rest of the Yangtze River Delta region, Putuo has shown impressive economic and urban growth during this period.
Industries such as intelligent software, research and development services, fintech, and life and health have been booming, fostering a robust atmosphere for innovation clusters, such as academic and research institutions, innovative and high-tech enterprises.
Through its "Beautiful Home" initiative, Putuo continued to enhance living conditions and infrastructure. The district's 21-kilometer waterfront of Suzhou Creek has been fully connected, with the Suzhou Creek Half Marathon Park and 29 riverside service stations completed and opened to the public.
Since 2021, a total of 180,800 square meters of old houses have been renovated and approximately 2.17 million repaired. A total of 755,000 square meters of green space, 27 kilometers of greenways, nine new urban parks, and 12 pocket parks have been built.
