Pudong Airport's expansion project achieves major progress
A key underground passage in the Phase IV expansion of Shanghai Pudong International Airport has reached a major construction milestone, paving the way for the project's next stage.
Located south of the T3 terminal, the underground passage has completed its main structural work as part of the first phase of the flight zone project under the Phase IV expansion.
Once operational, it will function as an auxiliary corridor linking the eastern and western sections of the T3 terminal.
Stretching approximately 1.5 kilometers, the passage is designed exclusively for operational support vehicles, helping to streamline ground operations and improve overall airport efficiency.
The project, however, was technically demanding. Construction intersected with multiple roadways and municipal infrastructure, requiring careful coordination.
To overcome these complexities, the construction team deployed smart construction technologies to ensure precision, coordination, and safety throughout the process.
The first phase of the flight zone project is now in its final stage and is scheduled for completion this year, with operations to begin in the first half of 2026.
Preparatory work for the second phase has also been completed, marking the transition to full-scale construction of the flight zone.
