City announces fireworks ban for Spring Festival holiday

The Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Public Security has issued a notice regarding the use of fireworks and firecrackers during the upcoming 2026 Spring Festival holiday.
According to the notice, all fireworks will be banned within the city's Outer Ring Road during the holiday.
For the areas outside the Outer Ring Road, some restricted zones are also designated, including:
- Offices and compounds of government agencies.
- Cultural relics protection sites and historical structures.
- Transportation hubs such as airports, railway stations, subway facilities, and ports.
- Facilities handling flammable or explosive materials.
- Energy infrastructure, such as power plants and gas stations.
- Medical institutions, schools, nursing homes, and kindergartens.
- Densely populated areas, such as shopping malls and markets.
- Buildings with flammable exterior insulation or low fire resistance ratings.
- Other zones designated by district governments.
The notice also imposes a ban on all fireworks during days of heavy air pollution.
It further underscores that the operation and transportation of fireworks and firecrackers, as well as large-scale fireworks displays, require official permits.
