Shanghai railway stations run 24/7 for Spring Festival travel rush
Shanghai's four major railway stations began operating 24 hours a day on Feb 8 to better accommodate passengers during the Spring Festival travel rush.
Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai South Railway Station, Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Shanghai Songjiang Railway Station are now keeping their waiting rooms open overnight to ensure smooth operations during the peak holiday period.
Stations across the city have also stepped up efforts to provide essential services, including water supply, heating and sanitation. Disposable toilet seat covers and disinfectant dispensers have been installed in restrooms, while disposable paper cups are available at water dispensers.
To meet passengers’ digital needs, more charging ports have been added in waiting rooms and charging areas. In addition, service centers and several retail outlets have extended their operating hours into the night.
This year's Spring Festival travel rush runs from Feb 2 to March 13. China's railways are expected to handle about 540 million passenger trips during this period, according to China State Railway Group, the national railway operator.
With heavy passenger traffic expected, travelers are advised to set out early and allow ample time for urban transport, security checks, and other procedures.
