Shanghai districts join forces to boost cosmetics industry
Shanghai's Jing'an and Fengxian districts signed a partnership deal on March 4 to jointly develop the cosmetics industry.
Through their partnership, the two districts will jointly build a sci-tech innovation ecosystem, promote industrial development, enhance brand value, explore policy applications, and share development results.
Jing'an district hosts more than 140 major cosmetics firms, housing the headquarters of global giants such as of L'Oreal, Clarins, and doTERRA. In May last year, it launched the Beauty Nova Tech Hub, an innovation ecosystem that integrates top-tier clinical resources from leading hospitals such as Huashan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, academic research capabilities from universities, and a platform providing capital support.
Fengxian district is home to the Oriental Beauty Valley, a leading beauty and health industry cluster in Shanghai. The valley boasts the city's only rapid-response center for cosmetics intellectual property protection and the only comprehensive platform integrating efficacy evaluation and clinical trials for cosmetics.
The cooperation is expected to advance localized production for companies such as US essential oil maker doTERRA, foster the clinical translation of research results by Joy Group in partnership with the dermatology department of Huashan Hospital, and deepen collaboration between the Oriental Beauty Valley and Shanghai Daning Asset Management (Group) Co Ltd.
By combining Jing'an's strengths in incubation with Fengxian's robust industrial platform, the districts aim to generate a powerful synergy for the sector.
Xing Xiachun, CEO of Joy Group, said that the cross-district collaboration enabled the company to partner with Huashan Hospital on clinical trials for its new anti-hair loss products.
Zhang Qi, a professor of dermatology at Huashan Hospital, noted that cooperation between medical clinical resources and mature industrial carriers allows basic research to better serve consumers, leading to benefits for all stakeholders.
