In a major push to promote the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, 44 key interprovincial transportation projects will be advanced during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30).

Covering railways, highways, and waterways, the projects aim to help the YRD region build a highly connected and modern transportation network by 2030, according to an action plan unveiled at the 8th High-Level Forum for Integrated Development of the Yangtze River Delta, held in Shanghai on May 21.

The YRD region covers Shanghai and its neighboring Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces.

Among the major projects to be advanced during the 15th Five-Year Plan period are the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway along the Yangtze River, the Shanghai-Suzhou-Jiaxing Intercity Railway, and the expansion of the Shanghai-Wuhan Expressway.

By the end of 2025, the total operating railway length in the YRD region had surpassed 15,400 kilometers, including more than 8,100 km of high-speed rail lines.
