Shanghai is offering a wide range of activities from July to October as the 2026 Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season rolls out across the city.

Under the theme "Shanghai Summer, Join the Family Fun", this year's season focuses on family-friendly activities, inbound consumption, and new urban experiences.

Highlights include Shanghai MovePARK at Zhangyuan, outdoor film screenings at Gate M West Bund Dream Center, and Butterbear-themed events at Bund Finance Center.

Shanghai MovePARK, which transforms Zhangyuan, the historical and cultural block along North Maoming Road, into a sports-themed hotspot, opened to the public on July 4 and will run through July 19.

Open daily from 10 am to 9 pm, Shanghai MovePARK offers activities such as soccer, tennis, badminton, basketball, and dryland curling for free, while Disney's Stitch-themed pop-up store adds another attraction. The activities are designed to make sports easy to try without requiring professional equipment or advanced skills.

Liu Min, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, said the sports-themed Shanghai MovePARK is designed to be accessible to everyone.

At the Visa FIFA World Cup-themed market at Zhangyuan, Yurika Rios Ponce, a Mexican visitor who resides in the United Kingdom, said the city has become increasingly welcoming.

Ponce said she had visited Zhangyuan a couple of times before and wanted to show her friend that it is one of the places that best reflects Shanghai's beauty.

A Summer Shop at Zhangyuan offers Shanghai Summer-themed merchandise and co-branded products, including fans, cotton T-shirts, luggage tags, towels, and reusable bags. A special-edition Shanghai Pass nationwide transport card featuring the Shanghai Summer mascot is also available.

Payment services are being upgraded during the season. The Meet China inbound tourism digital service terminal at the site provides services in 10 languages: Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Thai, Russian, and Arabic. It supports browsing, product selection, payment, and pickup, making it easier for overseas tourists to experience Shanghai Summer.

Liu said Shanghai is working with platforms and financial institutions to improve services for overseas visitors and small merchants while making departure tax refunds more convenient.

Shanghai Summer activities also extend to the waterfront at Gate M West Bund Dream Center, a family- and pet-friendly destination that combines open riverside space with dining, retail, and entertainment.

The Gate M Film Festival by the Huangpu River opened on July 2 and will run for 39 days, with more than 50 screenings, including classics, arthouse works, animation, and science fiction. The screenings will take place across Gate M West Bund Dream Center, Gate M Nest Park, and PRISMA Xinjia Center. The program also includes filmmaker talks and four movie-themed concerts.

The festival also pairs film screenings with dining, with more than 100 food and beverage outlets offering ticket-stub promotions.

Nearly 40 food-and-beverage outlets at Gate M West Bund Dream Center, including Chinese and Western restaurants, bars, cafes, and late-night eateries, have extended their evening hours until late September. Some riverside restaurants stay open until midnight, while bars and late-night food outlets operate as late as 2 am. During the World Cup, restaurants are also offering match-viewing packages and beer deals.

The area is also hosting soccer-themed events, a giant LEGO World Cup trophy installation, riverside match screenings, and Disney's Mickey & Friends Dream Travel pop-up. A Minions & Monsters-themed installation has also been unveiled, with a Spider-Man-themed installation to follow.

At BFC, Butterbear-themed activities are drawing visitors with a Butterbear Bakery Pop-up that features more than 50 new bakery-themed products, a co-branded dessert market, Butterbear installations, an immersive elevator, and a themed ice cream truck from July to August.

The dessert market, scheduled for early and mid-July, brings together more than 50 domestic and international dessert brands and also offers Butterbear co-branded merchandise. Stalls remained open until midnight on July 4 and are scheduled to do so again on July 11.

Meet-and-greet events featuring Butterbear are scheduled throughout the summer.

BFC will also host a summer water park with a new shallow foam pool for children under 3, as well as Thai cultural activities in cooperation with the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Shanghai and weekend music performances from July to August.
