The 10th Annual World Collegiate Weiqi Championship, an international Go tournament, concluded on July 11 at Fudan University's Handan Campus in Shanghai, bringing together 150 players from 101 universities in 37 countries and regions.

The event, launched in 2014, has previously been held at universities in cities including Toronto, Bangkok, Sydney, and Singapore. This year marked the first time the championship was held on the Chinese mainland.

After four days of competition, Wang Zihua of Guangxi Minzu University won the Men's Championship Group title, and Kwon Ga-yang from South Korea claimed the Women's Championship Group title.

Originating in China, Go has attracted new players around the world. The Shanghai edition of the championship showed how the ancient board game continues to connect young people globally.

Off the board, participants explored Shanghai and took part in cultural exchange activities, including city tours, intangible cultural heritage craft workshops, and teaching games.

Ahead of the championship, Fudan University also offered a Go training program for international students in Shanghai. A total of 86 international students from 13 universities took part in structured Go training, with two of them eventually qualifying for the championship.
