Shanghai Pudong International Airport is seeing more airlines launch international through-check services.

An international through-check service allows passengers to obtain boarding passes for all flight segments at their point of departure and to have their checked baggage sent directly to their final destination.

On July 28, passengers took China Southern Airlines' flight CZ3593 from Zhengzhou to Shanghai, then boarded another flight, CZ6095, from Shanghai to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Using China Southern Airlines' newly launched international through-check service, passengers did not need to collect and recheck baggage in Shanghai.

The service is now being piloted in both directions between domestic cities and Ho Chi Minh City via Pudong airport. Upon arrival at Pudong airport, passengers follow the dedicated transfer channel, complete the required immigration, customs, and security procedures, and proceed directly to the gate for their connecting flight. Compared with the previous process, transfer time has been reduced by about 60 minutes.

At Pudong airport, seamless transfers are expanding beyond connections within a single airline, with cross-airline cooperation also gaining momentum.

On June 16, Juneyao Airlines and China Eastern Airlines, including its subsidiary Shanghai Airlines, launched an upgraded cross-airline, cross-terminal transfer service at Pudong airport.

Building on the success of the first Qingdao-Shanghai-Singapore pilot route, the partners expanded the service to include Zhengzhou, Changsha, Xiamen, and Lanzhou as domestic origin and destination cities. They also added 10 intercontinental destinations via Pudong airport: New York, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, San Francisco, Toronto, Auckland, and Brussels.

The airport plans to expand international through-check services to more routes in the future.
