The West Bund Wander Line, a tourism shuttle connecting art venues, public spaces, and commercial landmarks along the Huangpu River in Shanghai's Xuhui district, began trial operations on Aug 1.

The 800-meter demonstration section runs between the Start Museum and Long Museum West Bund. It also connects attractions including a skate park, landscaped public spaces, and West Bund Central.

Passengers can admire views of the Huangpu River and waterfront architecture while learning about the area's industrial history, including the former Nanpu Railway Station and Beipiao Wharf.

The shuttle will operate free of charge from 1 to 5 pm from Tuesday to Sunday during the trial that goes till the end of October. Visitors must make reservations in advance through the WeChat mini program "Life WestBund" (西岸生活) , and each trip can carry up to 55 passengers.

Feedback on route planning and passenger experience will be collected to help improve services.

The shuttle is fully electric and operates without fixed rails. Equipped with machine vision, lidar, millimeter-wave radar, and the Beidou Navigation Satellite System, the vehicle can stay on a predetermined route.

The West Bund Wander Line is expected to gradually expand across the entire Huangpu River waterfront area of Xuhui district, connecting more cultural, commercial, tourism, sports, and exhibition venues.
